Job Summary
Responsible for overall engineering supervision, technical direction, adherence to standards and procedures along with the development of technical staff within the assigned discipline. Manages all aspects of their assigned scope of responsibility, employee and public safety and the completion of organization objectives. Responsible for providing overall direction and implementation of various process improvement tools and methodology that supports the gas handling system needs. Leads, coordinates and reviews the work of a staff of engineers and/or technicians and my be assisted on projects by others. Estimates personnel needs, schedules and assigns work. Must be able to make sound engineering decisions under time constraints. Reports to: various Company Manager(s).
Key Accountabilities
-Ensures program compliance with applicable regulations, codes & standards.
-Establishes required standards and practices.
-Leads and ensures implementation of continuous initiatives.
-Maintains awareness of industry performance issues through research, self-assessment and benchmarking; incorporates lessons learned and information obtained through involvement in industry groups, forums, etc. to ensure up-to-date practices within the incumbents area of responsibility.
-Manages assigned program areas including: planning, organizing, supervision, budgeting, staffing, implementing strategies and monitoring results.
-Directs activities of field construction projects.
-Performs employee appraisals and assists in developing employees for assignments requiring increased knowledge and/or responsibility.
-Provides consultation advice and problem analysis to senior management, and other individuals (internal and external) and business units, focusing on equipment reliability and plant safety.
-Provides leadership to others in the form of work direction, monitoring and training.
-Supervises contract support activities, including the preparation of requests for quote bid evaluation; makes recommendations to management based on the analysis of engineering data.
-Analyzes and recommends solutions to job related problems.
-Conducts advanced technical studies or operating studies, analyzing and resolving gas handling system problems.
-Makes clear and precise presentations to all levels of management.
Qualifications
-Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and 7-plus years of progressively responsible experience as an Engineer in gas handling; valid driver's license and ability to travel within the Corporations service area.
-Preferred: Professional Engineer registration, and at least 2 years of senior or lead worker experience.
-Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings/schematics and other design documents.
-Knowledge of natural gas handling systems, including transmission, distribution, storage, processing, controls, measurement, environmental and regulatory compliance, applicable codes and standards, gas analysis and materials testing and analysis.
-Proficient verbal (and non-verbal), written and presentation skills; communicates clearly, with credibility and confidence.
-Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
-Competent in multi-tasking (i.e. the ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high-visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork & planning).
-Initiates new ideas and approaches; challenges orthodox practices & approaches with reasonably sound alternatives.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications sufficient to apply them with minimal instruction or guidance.
-This level of proficiency typically attainable through 3-plus year(s) of substantive experience with these applications.
